Wayfinding for Treaty Partnership

Here’s the reality. Many of us did not encounter Te Tiriti o Waitangi growing up in Aotearoa New Zealand. It was not taught in our schools and for many it was not discussed at home either. Yet Te Tiriti is how many of us have arrived and get to live here. Join us as we guide you through your personal voyage to learn and apply Te Tiriti to your life.

Our next workshops

  • Wayfinding for Treaty Partnership is an opportunity to explore what true partnership means to you, your organization and leadership. Wayfinding helps people adopt a navigational mindset to make better choices to reach their goals. Embark upon a facilitated wayfinding process led by Faumuina Felolini Maria Tafuna'i and her team of wayfinding guides. Faumuina has 30 years experience working with iwi across Aotearoa and is the founder of indigenous Wayfinding for Strategy models, developed in collaboration with globally-renowned navigator Hoturoa Barclay-Kerr.

What to Expect

Personal Connection

Each participant is invited to bring a treasure/taonga from their whakapapa (family history) to the workshop, fostering a deep connection to their cultural roots.

Cultural, Historical, and Political Insights

Move beyond 'Treaty Training' to fully understand how to be a valued Treaty partner to Māori.

Practical Tools

Engage in exercises using Faumuina’s toolkit of 17 Habits of a Valued Treaty Partner, designed to help you embody the principles of Te Tiriti in your daily practice.

Programme Overview

Whakawhanaungatanga

Begin by celebrating the ancestry of all participants and sharing your individual aspirations for the day.

Whakanoa

Transition from a sacred (tapu) space to a non-sacred (noa) space through the sharing of food, creating a communal atmosphere.

Exploring Partnerships

What does a great partnership look and feel like? Reflect on your experiences with personal and business partnerships, and how these can inform your role as a Treaty partner.

Questions About Te Tiriti

Engage in a rapid brainstorming session where you can ask all the questions you’ve always had about Te Tiriti.

17 Habits of a Valued Treaty Partner

Delve into these habits and learn from the collective experiences within the room.

The Island of Doom

Discuss potential challenges and how to prevent or mitigate them. This is where workplans are created, timelines set, responsibilities assigned, and budgets allocated.

What Others Are Saying

As we built understanding of the Treaty, we were then able to build on that to look at how it applies for our organisation today. It allowed the team to guide us in the principles of wayfinding to really challenge our own embedded mindsets and assumptions, and create space for new and different approaches.
